As if we need more research to tell us about the adverse effects obesity has on the human body, a new study shows that obesity will raise the risk of infertility (story here). The report goes on to say, "Consuming a diet high in fat causes damage to eggs stored in female ovaries. As a result, when fertilised these eggs are not able to undergo normal, healthy development into embryos."
Recently, I spoke with a competitive bodybuilder who competes in Women’s Fitness. She had the opposite problem of too little fat, and when she found out she was pregnant had to quit training for her competition because her body fat was too low. The demands placed on the body to compete with such a low body fat percentage is not healthy for any woman during pregnancy, but certainly this doesn’t give license to consume too much of the wrong foods when pregnant.
As Julia knows, many women consume too much food when pregnant figuring, "I’m eating for two so why not?". Julia went on to gain too much weight during her pregnancy and even more afterwards. Don’t let the same thing happen to you if you’re pregnant. And if you’re trying to conceive, be sure to follow a healthy diet!
