I am a huge fan of will power. I believe what ever you set your mind to will come to pass if you work hard at it. I have applied this principle from way back at school, in my career as an employee seeking a promotion and in my businesses in later years. Okay I’m not as old as you may think now but am just saying will power makes things happen.
From as far as I can remember I have always been confronted with the issue of food cravings and body weight gain. I am this kind of person who can not afford to compromise my eating habit. Take one piece of chocolate and I’ll blow up like a balloon in a matter of days. Like I said earlier, I have always exercised will power in everything I do yet I have lived with the problem of food cravings and weight gain for years.
I would determine in my heart to stop eating junk food and actually stop doing it. Most often it would happen when someone has made me self conscious by commenting about my weight or my eating habits. Once that self-consciousness and uneasiness die down, I would find myself back at it again. This is a cycle that has been going on for years.
Recently I learnt that will power alone is not the key in anything in life. Will power is the key to set you on your path to your destiny but you need more than that to take your vision to the end. Knowledge is power, they say and I agree. I have since leant that it is important to understand how the body function in order to curb food cravings.
There are certain chemical imbalances that go on when I take this food and that food and when I do not eat that food and that fruit etc. One such an imbalance affects our feel good hormone called serotonin. If this hormone is not adequate in our body we tend to feel depressed, anxious, sad, irritable, very moody - you get the picture. What transpires when we feel that way is a desire to eat. Food cravings are at their highest when we are at our lowest and the absence of serotonin keeps us down.
So understanding how these hormones are maintained and the foods to eat in order to keep them in check is important in your fight against food cravings. It is not about will power but knowing your body’s needs. When you feel some food cravings coming on try replacing the craving with some peanuts, vegetables or even fruits. Sometimes you may just need to drink some pure water and all will be fine.
