In this article we are going to take a look at how the carbohydrates you may be eating are making you fat! With so many different types of diets on the market at all times, it’s no surprise that many of us are confused, confounded and simply exasperated at all of the seemingly hypocritical information available. Are carbs the answer to quick weight loss as so many seem to suggest….or are they instead a lurking ticking time bomb of fat just WAITING to materialize on our collective thighs, bellies and backsides? First - a Distinction
Understanding this simple point will help you move past the confusion: Carbs are (no pun intended) COMPLEX calories. There are SIMPLE carbohydrates (like sugars for example) and complex ones as well ( like brown rice). Eating each of these will have a very different reaction within your body, and need to be understood, AND treated differently if you are really trying to lose weight fast!
Let’s Look at the Difference
Simple sugars cause your body to create insulin - and are MUCH more likely to give you an immediate rush of energy, and then a subsequent crash thereafter. But the important thing to remember is that these simple sugars don’t serve the “wholeness” of your body in any real way, ultimately they are converted to fat very quickly…ESPECIALLY if you lead a sedentary lifestyle.
Conversely, brown rice is a complex carb - which means it has more nutritional value to your body - it is rich in fiber, for example, minerals and other important nutrients which do NOT raise the glucose level in your blood as much, and have a more sustained digestive process to boot. (which is sort of tantamount to providing an equilibrium of energy to the body over 4-6 hours, rather than ALL at once)
From a caloric standpoint, of course, ALL carbohydrates tend to be higher in energy (calories) than lean proteins - but they are an important component of any long term weight loss strategy for sure!
