Even in high school I complained about my back hurting when I did sit-ups. My friends told me to not bring my back so far off the floor. Others told me to make sure I was on a hard surface. And even with the ab chairs and devices that are supposed to make it easy for you to have six pack abs, it is a challenge, especially if your back is not strong.
I was looking for a secret, some way to easily improve my abs and at the same time not have the back pain. Even at the gym, the personal trainers never seemed to have a set opinion on what to eat, exercise to do, a routine. In my quest for the owners manual to my body, I had to figure this part out or I was doomed to continual battle of the bulge.
With my reporting background, I did research into this mystery. There has to be a way that is easier. Maybe if I lost the weight first, it wouldn’t be so hard on my back? Still, I knew with all the people fighting the same problem - fat around the thighs, face, or back, there was a solution that would work better than getting down on my back and painfully working those abdominals. My research led me to two important discoveries.
First off was the food I was eating. I didn’t think I had a bad diet, but I found food that can actually assist with the fat burning. There are foods that take more energy to digest than they leave on your body. Foods like lemons, grapefruit, fava beans, the list goes on. Work into these fat burning foods slowly so you will love to eat them everyday. But there was one more thing.
I found we can program any muscle group to think that it needs to get in shape and burn body fat quickly to do so. That sounds like something out of a novel, but it’s absolutely true. A strategy called static contraction works by holding the muscle group for 15 or more seconds - until you almost can’t hold that position any longer - builds muscle fast and burns fat even faster. Body builders use this all the time. And there’s a reason why it works so well.
The body begins to think that more strength is needed in that area so it immediately begins to build muscle fiber and to burn body fat in that area. Continue the stress and the process just gets better. So make sure you do this exercise each time you work out. If for another body area, just contract the muscles in that area and hold. Remember to do this often and the results you get will surprise you. Plus, no aching back! Now, combined these do one great thing for you.
When you use those two techniques and your great food choices, you’ll burn fat quickly. It’s just a natural function of your body that the fat will be burned off first and the muscle will build later. Watch what you eat in addition to your fat burning foods. Don’t make the process more complicated by eating junk or loading up on any one food. Eating living things, like vegetables, and less processed foods - well, you know that helps a lot.
Get into a good fat loss plan. I’m always telling friends that there are some great programs online that are designed around our lifestyle - sitting at a computer for a long time - and a great support team to match. The great part about this is that these people will actually help you be successful because it makes them successful as well - and they can get more people into their program. You, of course, make off with a great body!
