Weight loss products is a big industry in this country. So many folks need to lose weight that producers of supplements and pills that supposedly “melt the weight” away proliferate reputedly more each year. The situation could be a bit distressing if you need to find the best weight loss supplements to your diet that can help reduce your weight and make you slimmer but you do not need to become involved with some con product that takes your money and doesn’t deliver results.

One way to try to cut thru the hype of all the weight loss products is to be very skeptical of any product that claims it can get a huge amount of weight off in a very short time. When they have “testimonials” of people who lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks, that is either a fake testimonial or a very unhealthy product. The sole way you can lose weight at that rate of speed is to become very sick or to take something that is unhealthy for you. Our bodies are not built to change at that rate of speed. If you did lose ten pounds or more in a week, the effects on your general health would be ravaging. And because your body would not have lost the weight naturally, the weight will not stay off.

Another claim that is created by many weight loss supplement products is that you can lose an outstanding quantity of weight without changing your diet and with no exercising. This is one of the most prevalent weight loss myths that takes on a new complexion almost every week. One product has discovered a puzzle herb in the depths of Africa that makes the weight fall off. Another one is employing a space age formula which has been a top secret with NASA till now and this weight loss company were the ones to get it. If the phrase “give me a break” springs to mind when you hear these claims, your skepticism is well placed.

The unhappy thing is these products employ a system of nearly making you unwell to get that weight off without diet or exercise. If you choose to try one of these products, notice straight away the strict rules about when to take the pills so you don’t make yourself sick straight away. What happens is the pills will cause your metabolism to race so you will literally shake and sweat the weight off as you rest after eating a meal. The supplement is literally making you unwell to get rid of the weight. And like all supplements that promise a lot for small effort, the weight will not stay off even if you lose weight short term.

The best weight loss system uses supplements to healthy diet that causes the good foods you eat to be maximized by your body. They are natural supplements that use food products to supplement food products. And the product makes no claims of fast weight loss or that you can skip good diet and exercise programs. All good weight loss systems are grounded in long term adherence to a lifestyle of diet and exercise. If you recognize that and use supplements based on commonsense and healthy decisions, that might be a supplement that truly works so you lose weight and keep it off as you continue to live well.

We throw up a lot of self-imposed barriers to our fitness success. One of the most common refrains I hear is the “I don’t have time” excuse. I’ll concede that time is becoming ever more precious and that we all lead very busy lives. But the truth is that fitness takes a lot less time than you would think. You can get a highly effective fat-loss workout in the comfort of your own home in less than half an hour.

The fitness industry has us well conditioned to believe we need to fight our way through traffic to get to an overcrowded gym where we spend a ridiculous amount of time waiting for machines so that we can do exercises which are barely effective and certainly not time-efficient. I can understand how, given this circumstance, many people would be able to easily convince themselves that they don’t have the time to train.

But let’s set the record straight. Treadmills are not the most effective means of fat loss. Elliptical machines, stationary bikes and stair steppers are about the least time-efficient means of getting in shape. If you want fat loss in a hurry, put together circuits of resistance based exercise that quickly raise intensity levels to a high level for relatively short periods of time.

This approach is sometimes referred to as Metabolic Conditioning. It is a cousin of Interval Training, but isn’t a slave to running, biking and other “aerobic” conditioning methods. You can put these circuits together with anything. My favorite tools for this are Clubbells, kettlebells, sandbags and of course bodyweight exercises.

The advantage of using bodyweight exercise is the ability to take your workout routine with you wherever you go. Do you work long hours? Catch a workout in your office. Travel a lot for work? Train in your hotel room. Scared of people and hide in your apartment all day? You get the idea…

When setting up your training circuit, you’ll need to work with the Rate of Perceived Effort. Using a scale of 1-10 (10 being extreme effort), you should aim for an RPE of 8-10. This will get you into a zone where you are creating a metabolic disturbance. This means your body will be working for hours - or even days - afterwards in order to bring you back to your original state. This means continued fat burning after the session is done. You won’t get that with your traditional cardio. The minute you step off the treadmill the process is done.

You can set up your session in a hundred different ways, but here is one extremely simple example for you to try. Do the following 3 exercises one after the other without rest. You have one and a half minutes to do all the exercises and get some rest in before the next round starts. No matter what, when one and a half minutes is over, the next round starts. So, if it takes you 60 seconds to do all your reps, you get 30 seconds of rest.

Here is your circuit:
Pushups x 10 repetitions
Sit-ups x 10 repetitions
Bodyweight Squat Jumps x 10 repetitions

Repeat this circuit for 8 rounds and you’ll soon see that you can pack a very intense and simple exercise session into a very short 12 minute package.

This is an extremely simplistic example as far as exercise selection goes. But these are exercises that most people will be familiar with. In truth, the sky (and your imagination) is the limit as to the types and variety of bodyweight exercise that is available to you.

Lose Weight by Winning the Battle of Late Night Binging - Discover How to Get Powerful Results Here
Have you found a trouble-free approach to your weight loss issue? By now you realize promises of easy weight loss solutions don’t really work. Yo-yo dieting isn’t fun, so perhaps now your weight issue is something you are ready to take serious. The valuable information in this article will help you to begin living a healthier life in no time. For most of us who are battling with the habit of late night eating, find we can often give in to the temptation over and over again. Understandably this bad habit has got to go if you are going to achieve your desired weight goal on your diet. When you start to eat during a part of the day when you’re not going to do any physical activities afterwards to burn it off, you will gain weight. It is not necessarily the time of day you eat that will end up as unhealthy weight gain, but the type of foods you tend to eat late at night combined with not burning it off physically afterwards. You know what your favorite junk foods are to eat after everyone else has gone to bed; cookies, ice creams, chips, and whatever else your mind says will just hit the spot at the time. Eating late at night will not give your heart the rest it needs because it has to work overtime to help digest all the food you just ate. Below are 8 Ways that will help you be more successful in your diet, and will help you put an end to any bad eating habits that could derail your weight loss progress. 1. Be sure to eat three well balanced meals during the day but don’t forget to have two or three low fat snacks between meals. Many people try to eat too few calories during the day and then start binging late at night. Don’t skip out on breakfast and try eating most of your calories before 7pm. 2. When you get the urge to eat late at night, try drinking 1 to 2 cups of water or a favorite sugar free beverage. You will more than likely still want to eat after this but remind yourself that you feel hungry late at night due to your routine of eating late or it is because your mind thinks it needs to eat again. Breaking this routine is like learning to quit smoking and takes fortitude and support. Put a note on your pantry, refrigerator or wherever else needed; include your diet goals to lose 20 or 30 pounds and in large letters write something like: I WILL NOT EAT AFTER 8pm! 3. Quit buying your favorite junk food items and avoid late night binging by hiding all high calorie foods. Instead of eating junk food, have a piece of sugar-free hard candy or reach for a pack of sugar-free pudding.
4. TV can be hazardous to your health! If your favorite TV serious comes on too late at night, try recording it so you can watch it earlier in the evening. It is easier to start binging at night when you are sitting down watching the television. Keep finding ways to be active by working on a favorite hobby and NOT watching just TV for hours on end. Watching your favorite fast food ad on TV can subconsciously trigger the impulse to eat and being bored can be one of the biggest dangers to late night eating. 5. Record your Weight Loss Progress! Have a written copy of your diet plan easily assessable, which will keep your goal of losing weight always on your mind. This will allow you to see your progress, as you begin to see your late night eating routine begin to improve and your weight loss goals getting closer and closer.
6. Be Thrilled to be Alive! Mix up your daily routine and get moving! You’ve already decided to get healthier and diet; now it’s your responsibility to be proactive about your late night eating habits. Did you know that on average it takes 6 weeks to break a habit and start a new one? Begin creating a good healthy lifestyle and stick to it until it becomes a new life pattern. Once you see and feel the difference it makes in your health and fitness, you will be so excited and well pleased, it will be like an extra burst of energy that will help you reach your weight loss goals even faster! 7. Snacking does not have to be the enemy we’ve made it out to be. It’s what we snack on and how much we eat that matters. I was relieved to find out that; occasional snacks that are low in fat are okay. I enjoy low calorie snacks and my favorite treat is 1-2 scoops of sugar free butter pecan ice-cream on Sundays. Select a favorite snack and see if you can find a low calorie or sugar free version of it. Just remember though that even if the snacks are low fat, they may be loaded full of salt! Just because it is advertised as low fat or is lower in carbohydrates doesn’t mean you can eat three times as much. It’s okay to enjoy it but don’t over indulge yourself 8. Believe the Best in Yourself! Become energetic and totally committed to losing weight; you can do it! Since you know what your weak areas are, don’t give into your old bad habits. When you feel tempted to snack late at night, it’s an artificial feeling that will go away when you go to bed. The next morning you can wake up and enjoy a healthy breakfast to welcome in another new day and you will be even more closer to being a happier, healthier you! Unrestrained eating late at night is a common battle for nearly all of dieters. Final thought: If you are on a diet, you need to IMMEDIATELY put a stop to the mid-night munchies. Unfortunately, many dieters will do great during the day only to blow it late at night; but that doesn’t have to be what happens to you!

Does Green Tea Help in Weight Loss?

Dr. Steve,

I saw a commercial for a green tea diet.  Is this real or a waste of money?

Jeannie R.

San Mateo, CA

Jeannie,

Green tea is made from the dried leaves of Camellia sinensis, a perennial evergreen shrub. Green tea has a long history of use dating back approximately 5,000 years to China.

Green tea, black tea, and oolong tea are all derived from the same plant. Green tea can be drunk like any other tea. If you do not like the taste you can purchase green tea extract. Many people are turning to inexpensive and natural green tea weight loss plans to help them in their overall life style program.

Green tea stimulates the body’s thermogenesis process, which increases use of energy and oxidizes fat. Many compounds found in numerous plants have this similar effect. Green tea does not increase the heart rate, and is therefore believed to be safer than diet pills such as ephedrine which also works by stimulating thermogenesis.

A lot of people who are overweight have or are at risk of developing hypertension and other cardiovascular problems, so the fact that green tea does not put pressure on the heart makes it a good choice. It means that you can gradually increase your exercise levels without increasing your risk of heart problems.

Green tea has the added benefit of containing powerful antioxidants that may be beneficial to your health in many ways, strengthening the immune system and protecting against disease.

Keep in mind that green tea does contain caffeine so you should cut out coffee and other forms of tea while you are taking it. Decaffeinated green tea is not recommended because the chemical processes that are used to remove the caffeine may destroy the beneficial properties of the plant.

Green tea is a simple, easy and inexpensive weight control aid that can easily be incorporated into any weight loss program. It is highly more preferable then coffee, sodas or sweetened juices.

The choice of tea or extract offers something for everybody. Natural and safe, green tea weight loss should be a feature in your program if you want to keep the weight off permanently.

There are three critical building blocks that must be stacked together to achieve weight loss: eating healthier and smaller portions (consuming fewer calories), increasing expenditure of energy through simple exercise (using up more calories) and having the mind set (mental discipline) to change your habits into a positive life program of health and vitality.

Do you want to lose 7-10 pounds in the next 2 weeks? You can quickly and easily lose that much if you use ALL 3 of the critical building blocks stacked together.

Diet products that are simply lower in fat, sugar and calories aren’t as hot as they once were. “Functional” is the new frontier for food and beverage companies looking to grab the attention and dollars of the growing number of overweight consumers at home and abroad, confirms a new Euromonitor International Trend Watch report, “Opportunities Within Functional Weight Management Products.’

In response to consumer trends, weight-management products are undergoing a “profound shift” away from merely “better-for-you” (BFY) or “lesser evil” reduced fat/sugar offerings and toward products with ingredients promising benefits such as appetite suppression and increased metabolism/calorie burning, report Euromonitor’s analysts.

In fact, whereas such ingredients and claims were once mainly the bailiwick of those diet supplements promoted on TV via startling before-and-after photos of women and men in bathing suits, mainstream companies are increasingly looking to get in on the action.

The reason: Worldwide BFY packaged foods sales reached $116 billion, and beverages reached $36 million last year, but together, their annual growth rate was only marginally higher than the 2 seen by the overall packaged F&B market, according to Euromonitor. Meanwhile, fortified/functional F&B’s continued to see growth of about 10% in 2007.

A few major U.S.-based F&B’s have already stuck their toes into the functional waters. Kellogg has been particularly active with its Special K brand, including its recent launches of Special K Sustain cereal with fiber and soy protein and its “innovative–especially for a cereal company”–Special K20 Protein Water mixes and bottled waters. Both products hone in on the “satiety” trend, points out Euromonitor.

The joint Coca-Cola/Nestle launch of Enviga in the U.S. in late 2006 stimulated controversy and lawsuits with its “negative calorie” claim. But that hasn’t dissuaded PepsiCo from introducing, with a less aggressive marketing/claims approach, both Diet Pepsi Max (zero-calorie cola with ginseng and extra caffeine to provide “a kick of energy”) and Tava–another zero-calorie, carbonated beverage fortified with vitamins and chromium and offered in three “exotic flavor blends.”

Smaller and medium-sized functional weight-management players in the U.S. include Marquis Platinum’s new Vitality Drink with green-tea extracts, marketed as an energy drink with a calorie-burning formulation; and Scientific Response’s dairy-based Drink & Shrink chocolate shake, which contains hoodia gordonii extract. The latter, reports Euromonitor, is sold as a dietary supplement rather than a food product “in order to get around much stricter regulations on herbal extracts permitted in foods, as set out by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which would not allow hoodia as a functional ingredient in food products.”

Unilever is reported to be planning the launch of a hoodia weight-management product under its Slim-Fast brand by 2011, according to Euromonitor.

Functional weight-management F&B products are already quite prevalent in other countries, including Spain and Japan.

Euromonitor explains that functional weight-management products fall under three broad categories/benefits claims: products that suppress appetite/induce a feeling of satiety and include functional ingredients such as chromium, hoodia gordonii, fat emulsions, added protein and fiber; products that boost metabolism and include ingredients such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), omega-3 and green-tea extracts; and products that inhibit digestion of macronutrients (carbs, fats) or their conversion into body fat with elements such as hydroxycitric acid (HCA).

Here’s a summary of the most promising areas of opportunity for F&B’s in the functional weight-management arena, per Euromonitor’s analysis:

* Dairy: Dairy products provide the “ideal” physical and marketing medium for the addition of many types of functional ingredients, in part due to the global probiotic yogurt boom. “Consumers the world over are more than ready for the next line of functional dairy products,” says Euromonitor, noting that, for example, one-shot yogurt drinks “lend themselves especially well to employing a satiety-enhancing positioning.” Such products are already available in other countries.

* Beverages: In addition to the carbonated and other drinks already noted, waters are ripe for functional marketing because of “the bottled water industry’s well-communicated rehydration message” and because bottled waters in general are already associated with weight management in consumers’ minds, reports Euromonitor. Again, waters with weight-management-purporting benefits are available in other countries.

* Bakery: Since the reduced- or low-carb craze began to wane in 2004, marketers have largely failed to capitalize on the “golden opportunity” in weight-management-positioned carb products, says Euromonitor. “Weight-management products ideally need to have a daily presence in consumers’ lives if they are to stand any chance of being effective”; hence, the opportunity in products like bread or breakfast cereals, say the analysts.

Aside from Kellogg in the U.S., Japanese manufacturers have introduced soluble-fiber cake bars that produce a long-lasting feeling of satiety, Euromonitor reports. But chromium, “which is promoted in the dietary supplements realm as fighting off sugar cravings, would make an ideal weight management ingredient to be added to staple bakery products,” and HCA, “which is purported to inhibit the conversion of carbohydrates into fat, offer “great potential” for carb-rich, low-fat bread and breakfast cereals, it points out.

Its now March, summer is just around the corner, and you want to get that body of yours prepared for the the sun and even beaches if your going on holiday this summer, but what more better way to prepare than finding out the best exercise to lose belly fat. Getting that 6pack abs ripping through on display, so let’s start with the question: What is the best exercise to lose belly fat?

Well, sorry to say, there is no one magical, fat blasting, underground or secret formula to losing body fat, however, combined with the right diet and the correct workouts then you can start to burn away that excess belly fat and start to harden and flatten that tummy of yours, now I’ve come across many a tummy exercise in my past, but you see the best results are always gained by those who put in the most effort, the more effort and dedication you show to a workout plan and diet plan, the more fat you burn and the bigger the gains.

Level of commitment to workout + the correct diet = Results!

What better way to end than with results?

Now there is this big misconception about crunches, many people believe doing 200-300 crunches a day will lose that belly fat, well, it will help you strengthen and maintain muscle mass and core stability in the abdominal area, but it won’t help that much, its certainly not the best exercise to lose belly fat.

So what is the best tummy exercise…There isn’t one! That’s right, no 1 exercise is going to lose you belly fat, simple fact. Of course you can find a range of exercises, an exercise to flatten tummy, an exercise to harden and stabilize your core, but they come in a range of categories, today I’ll focus on Cardio Vascular Exercises.

Running/Jogging - is one of the exercises that would drop into a best exercise to lose belly fat category if we had one, running effective burns fat all over the body, run for 10 minutes and feel your legs, stomach and back work, that’s fat being burnt.

How does this work? It works because your heart rate increases which in turn burns more calories which is burning fat.

Swimming - Swimming is one of the most overlooked cardio exercises that help burn fat, I mean ask yourself, when reading this article, did you think swimming would be added here? A majority of people will answer no. Swimming is a full body workout, it burns fat all over including your stomach fat, this also has no impact so those with joint problems can do this and also those who get dehydrated quickly should definitely do this, because you don’t sweat you don’t get dehydrated allowing you to work without getting that light headed feeling if you work too hard. This also would fall into the best exercise to lose belly fat category if we had one.

Riding A Bike - Riding a bicycle is a great way to burn belly fat, this is because some people (including me) have joint problems and high impact exercises such as running has too much of an impact, so cycling is a great benefit and would fall into the best exercise to lose belly fat category if we had one.

Walking - Yes, that’s right, walking can in fact help you lose belly fat, now you have to walking at a fast enough pace to raise your heart rate and not taking a stroll, but this is a great way for those beginning to exercise can get used to going long distances, and is also low impact on joints so for those with joint problems but want to begin training can find this a useful tool. This is one surprising exercise that would fall into the best exercise to lose belly fat category if we had one.

That does it for this article. See you in my next one.

Remember to bring it each session, and never quit.

My Name is Sean, I have been a fitness enthusiast for more that 6 years, I have bought many e-books, web programs and other digital and physical products on the internet to help improve my training. I have come across some interesting information in that time and also many scams, and I think its time to share it with you so you know what to look for in a product before you buy.

Have you been working out and dieting but still not losing weight as fast as you think you should? Maybe you are not getting a good night’s sleep. If you are not getting enough sleep you could be sabotaging your efforts to lose weight and get in shape.

The other morning at my 6am work out session with my personal trainer, I was complaining about how tired I was and how hard it was to get up so early to work out. He asked a simple question, “How much sleep are you getting?”

That got me thinking about the connection between sleep and weight loss. The first obvious link is that when I am not getting enough sleep I am too tired to get up and go work out; which, in turn, derails my weight loss efforts. What about the less obvious connection between getting a good night’s sleep and losing weightWA? I decided to dig deeper. How important is it to get a good night’s sleep? I found out, it is very important.

Researching the Link Between Sleep and Weight Loss

As it turns out there is a significant link to the amount of sleep a person gets and their weight. Several studies done at the University of Chicago in Illinois, Stanford University in California and other universities across the US show that people who get less sleep gain more weight and have higher percentages of body fat. Why? What could sleep possibly have to do with what I weigh? Well it comes down to hormones; leptin, ghrelin and cortisol.

Ghrelin hormones are your “I’m hungry” indicators; they tell you when your body needs to eat. Lack of sleep causes an increase in ghrelin levels. If you don’t get enough sleep you have more of these hunger hormones telling you that you are hungry. Leptin hormones tell you when you are full. Lack of sleep causes leptin levels to drop. If you do not have enough leptin your body doesn’t recognize that you are full and you over eat. Lack of sleep can increase the production of the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol is best known for increasing belly fat. So it turns all that extra food into belly fat! Voila you gain weight or if you are trying to lose weight your efforts are thwarted. What a cycle. Who knew that sleep is that important?

How Much Sleep Should You Get ?

According to a 16 year study presented in 2006 at the American Thoracic Society International Conference women who slept 7 hours or more per night weigh less than women who slept 5 hours or less.Women who slept 6 hours per night were 6% more likely to be obese and 12% more likely to gain at least 33lbs or more. Women who slept 5 hours per night were 15% more likely to be obese and 32% more likely to gain at least 33lbs or more.

That seems pretty significant to me. There are also many other effects that lack of sleep has on your body. The experts say that at least 7 hours of sleep a night is what we need.

Getting enough sleep is even more important if you are working out or stressing the body. When you work out it tears down the muscles so they can rebuild themselves bigger and stronger. Sleep is the time that the body does that. If you don’t give the body enough time to properly heal itself you eventually wear out.

So I guess mom was right, the key to a healthy life is to eat right, exercise and get a good night’s sleep.

Getting more sleep is a relatively simple task but sometimes all of us need help with the other two, eating right and exercising.

Do you want to lose belly fat over age 40? Often you read to do crunches, reverse bicycles and similar exercises for the abdominal muscles. At first sight, that’s logical. You’re working out a body part, so the fat on this body part is getting less. But the way we are burning fat does not work like that.

There is no spot fat reduction. It’s genetically programmed where you gain weight and where you lose it first. And: Over 40 this genetic program is getting more prevalent. “I want to lose belly fat” is something I hear very often- but, unfortunately, it is not possible to lose fat on a body part. But we can achieve something much better: We can get an overall lean body.

Crunches are great to strengthen the core muscles around your belly. If you want to shape your figure, exercises like the  reverse bicycle  really help to tone your body. You might consider doing exercises for the back in addition, so front and back of your midsection are getting strong. This will help your posture too and keep back pain away. For many over 40 back pain is quite common- our sedentary lifestyle contributes to that greatly.

In comparison crunches are not the most time-efficient thing to do when you want to lose weight. Compared to the leg muscles, your abdominal muscles are relatively small. So you burn more calories when you exercise the leg muscles compared to exercising the belly muscles. Your leg muscles are much bigger and will burn more calories in the same time.

If you consider doing crunches, do it for the right reason: to strengthen your midsection. If you want to lose weight permanently, better exercise the bigger muscles on your body.

Losing weight is probably one of the hardest things to do. There are loads of diet programs available that promise to deliver results. Some require eating only specific kinds of food while others suggest that one stop eating after a certain point in the day. Below is a review of some effective diet programs that if followed consistently, should be able to help to shed off those extra pounds. The 3-Hour Diet Nutritionist Jorge Cruise wrote a book that explains the mechanics, effects, and the rationale behind the 3-hour diet. In a nutshell, this diet requires one to eat meals in three-hour intervals. He also suggests that one eat 3 meals, 2 snacks, and a treat every day. Eating breakfast is a must and it should be done within 60 minutes of waking up in the morning. Eating should stop at least 3 hours before going to bed at night. A good thing about this particular diet is that one can eat whatever he likes, without any restrictions. Cruise actually suggests that for the snack, one could have a candy or a similar sweet. Moderation is key. The philosophy of this diet is that watching how much one eats is more important than monitoring what is actually being eaten. The downside here is the fact that it requires eating every three hours, something that may be too demanding a task for a busy person. The Cookie Diet The first thing to know about this diet is the fact that once on it, one is not actually going to eat real cookies. In fact, cookies here are a mixture of amino acids and fibre. The other ingredients of the cookie-like food product remain confidential as companies wouldn’t want to reveal their secret recipe. One is required to eat around five cookies a day as a substitute for lunch and breakfast. People on this diet still eat a reasonable dinner. It is easy to lose weight on this diet because it is low calorie. The main criticism about this diet is that the cookies do not have that much flavour. Moreover, not everyone would want to eat cookies for the rest of their lives so the longevity of this diet is also questionable. The South Beach Diet The South Beach Diet is probably one of the most popular diet programs today. All types of celebrities have shared their testimonies that claim how effective this diet is. Like most diet programs, the South Beach Diet also has 3 phases. The first phase is the fastest as it only lasts for two weeks and it is also the most restrictive. In this phase one is required to eat lean meats, some types of vegetables, nuts, and eggs. The second phase is set to bring one down to his or her ideal weight. This phase suggests eating certain fruits, a variety of rice, as well as some types of chocolates in moderation. The third phase is the least restrictive and by this time, the person on the diet is already used to eating right and may find eating as natural. Foods suggested here are those with good fats and good carbs. Although this is a good and effective diet, the time needed to prepare one’s food may be a turnoff for some.
